Seed: Time Capsule of Life by Pastor Carl Toti

Every week, I get "Pastor Carl's Weekly Encouragement" sent to my e-mail. Carl is the pastor at Trinity Church in Lubbock and I really enjoy his sermons. His food for thought this week is about the power of a seed. You know, "the faith of a mustard seed" and such. Here it is:

Jesus said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17:20

God is into small. The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed. Faith is like a mustard seed. He spoke of the Kingdom being like yeast, a perfect pearl, one lost coin, and children. God likes small beginnings. Never underestimate the power of small acts, performed consistently, to accomplish great endings. Small hinges open large doors; small keys unlock vast treasures. Often things smaller than a seed can pack so much power.

A great truth I learned 30 years ago (and I am still trying to learn and apply) is the power of a seed. All that you need, God has already given to you in the form of a seed. It is harvest time on the South Plains and the cotton fields are white and ready for harvesting. The fields yielding a harvest today were planted with cotton seeds this past spring. You can't yield a harvest unless you plant a seed. What is a seed? A seed is a time capsule of life, a small beginning with a large future, or is anything that can increase. A seed is also anything you have, know, or can share that brings blessing to others.

Thoughts are seeds to a harvest of deeds.
Love is a seed to intimacy.
Patience is a seed to love.
Money is a seed to wealth.
Kindness is a seed to favor.
Prayer is a seed to change.
Forgiveness is a seed to healing.
Gratitude is a seed to more.
Holiness is a seed to happiness.

Do you desire more of the above? Sow more seeds. Sow good seeds and reap a good harvest.

"God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Don't become weary in doing good for at the proper time you will reap a harvest if you do not give up." (Galatians 6:7-9)

What seeds have you been planting lately? They will determine your future harvest. I know people who sow only seeds of strife and discord, and they wonder why they harvest weeds. Sow good seeds and enjoy your harvest!
